Malaysia Visa Sample Letters for Work Pass Holders in Singapore

Every time I share my Malaysia visa guide, the same question comes back: what did the letter actually say? The portal asks for a flight ticket you may not have, or proof that you are sponsoring family who are travelling on your account. A short, clearly written letter covers all of that, and Malaysian immigration accepts it.

So here are the three letters I have actually used, cleaned up as templates. Fill in the bracketed parts with your own details, save each one as a PDF under 2MB, and name the file with letters and numbers only, for example “SponsorshipLetter”. That last rule trips a lot of people up on the upload page.

One note before you copy anything. Malaysia’s rules and the eVisa portal do change. Treat these as a starting point, not gospel, and check the official immigration site for the current requirements before you apply.

1. Sponsoring your wife and children

Use this when your spouse and kids live with you in Singapore on Dependant Passes, and you are applying for them from your own account. It confirms the relationship, that they reside here with you, and that you are covering the trip. Because they are residents of Singapore, they can get a multiple-entry visa like you.

2. Sponsoring parents or siblings visiting from home

Use this when your parents or siblings are visiting you in Singapore on a social visit pass, and you want to take them across to Malaysia for a few days before they fly home. They are not residents here, so this will be a single-entry visa, and you apply for them from your own account. You cannot apply until they have arrived in Singapore, because you need the ICA notification of their visit pass to attach.

3. Explaining a public transport trip (no flight ticket)

Use this when you do not have a flight or bus ticket to attach because you are crossing overland — a bus to Johor Bahru, then onward to other Malaysian cities. The portal expects proof of your journey, and this letter with a simple itinerary does the job in place of a ticket.

Before you submit

Read each letter back once you have filled it in. Check that the names match the passports exactly, that the dates line up with your hotel booking, and that you have signed it. Then save it as a PDF, keep the filename to letters and numbers only, and upload it in the right slot.
