How to Get a Multiple-Entry Malaysia Visa from Singapore

Malaysia is the easiest getaway from Singapore. It is right next door, the visa is online, and for most work pass holders here it is a quick weekend or a longer road trip whenever you feel like it.

My 2023 Malaysia visa guide is the most-read article on my site and on Medium, which tells you how many of us make this trip. This is the updated version for 2025, and it also covers something the old one did not: how to apply for a visa for your parents when they visit you in Singapore and you want to take them across the border.

The short version before we start:

The visa is either a 6-month multiple-entry visa or valid until your work pass expires, whichever comes first.
The fee is about 40 SGD (MYR 120).
Processing usually takes less than 3 working days.

You can apply for your spouse, children, and parents from your own account.
For parents who are not SG residents, they must already be in Singapore as visitors, because an ICA notification letter is needed for their application.

Prepare your documents

Before you apply online, gather these. One rule that trips people up: name every file using only letters and numbers, for example “HusnyPassport”, “HusnyPhoto”, “NavoPassport”.

Passport. Valid for 6+ months from your travel date. Save as .jpeg/.jpg, under 2MB, details clear and readable.

Photo. 35mm x 50mm, no borders, taken within the last six months. Save as .jpeg/.jpg, under 2MB.

Hotel booking. Reserve through Agoda, Booking.com, or Airbnb with free cancellation. Save the confirmation as a PDF, for example “HotelBooking”.

Travel itinerary. If you are taking public transport, attach a letter explaining your travel plans. If you have booked a flight or bus, prepare the ticket as a PDF under 2MB, named with letters and numbers only, such as “MyFlightTicket” or “MyBusTicket”. Here is a sample letter to submit if you are taking public transport from Singapore.

Work pass (PEP/EP/S Pass/DP/WP). Create a PDF with the front, back, and validity screenshots from the SGWorkPass app. Here is a sample format.

Proof of financial support (update August 2025). Download your latest bank statement showing enough balance to cover the trip. Save as a PDF under 2MB, make sure your name and balance are clearly visible, and name the file with letters and numbers only, such as “BankStatement”.

With those ready, you can start.

Step 1: Log in to the Malaysia immigration website

Go to the Immigration Department of Malaysia’s official website: https://malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my/evisa/evisa.jsp

If you do not have an account, create one first. The steps are straightforward.

Note (update August 2025): also upload your latest bank statement showing enough funds for the trip.

Step 4: Review and proceed to payment

Check the information you entered and the documents you uploaded carefully.

If everything is accurate, go to the payment section to submit the fee.

Step 5: Enter card details and pay

Enter your card details as prompted and pay the fee.

Once payment is done, you will get a confirmation email acknowledging your submission and payment.

You can see your application’s “in progress” status on the portal.

Step 6: Visa approval and printing

When your visa is approved, you will get an email with a link. Click it, go to the portal, log in, and you will see options to print both your visa and your payment receipt.

Important: download it soon. Some people find they cannot log in the day before they travel, which leaves them unable to print the visa. You need the printout to enter Malaysia.

Step 7: Apply for your family

Once you have applied, you can apply for your family members (spouse, children, parents) from your own account.

You can only apply for multiple-entry visas for family members residing in Singapore. If your parents are visitors to Singapore rather than residents and you want to take them to Malaysia for a short trip, you can still apply for them from your account with a sponsorship letter, but it will be a single-entry visa.

Applying for parents visiting you in Singapore

This applies if your parents visit you in Singapore and you want to take them to Malaysia for a short trip.

Sponsorship letter for parents. Prepare a letter stating you will cover all their travel expenses. I added the Colombo-to-Singapore and Singapore-to-Colombo air tickets to the sponsorship letter. Save it as a PDF and name the file with letters and numbers only, such as “SponsorshipLetterToParents”. Here is a sample sponsorship letter.

ICA notification of Electronic Visit Pass. ICA emails a notification letter granting your parents’ stay in Singapore. This is required to apply for their Malaysia visa. Save it as a PDF named with letters and numbers only, such as “IcaNotificationLetter”.

Important: you cannot apply for your parents’ visa before they arrive in Singapore, because the ICA notification letter is mandatory. So if you plan to take them to Malaysia during their visit, plan the trip for at least 3 working days after they arrive. That way you can apply as soon as they land, and the visa has time to process.

Since this is the Singapore portal, you cannot change the country when entering the parent’s address. I added both the Sri Lanka and Singapore addresses under the Current Local Address section.

Attach the sponsorship letter under “Flight Ticket / Proof of Journey.”
Attach ICA’s notification letter under “SG Arrival / SG Long Term / PR.”
Attach the hotel booking under “Accommodation.”

Follow the steps, prepare the documents properly, and this is one of the smoothest visas you will ever apply for. Review everything before you submit, and have a wonderful trip.
