How to Get an Indonesia Visa from Singapore: A Step-by-Step Guide

Indonesia pulls in millions of visitors a year, whether it is the beaches of Bali or a quick weekend hop to Batam. But before you book anything, there is one thing to settle first. Do you actually need a visa to get in?

If you hold a passport that needs a visa in advance, like a Sri Lankan one, you do. And the process is not hard, but it has a few steps that are easy to get wrong if nobody has walked you through them. So this is that walk-through, based on my own application.

Whether you are flying from Singapore, Malaysia, or Sri Lanka, or taking the ferry to Batam, this guide takes you through getting your Indonesian visa the same way we did.

Our trip

My wife and I visited Indonesia in July 2025. We spent nine days in Bali, flying from Singapore to Denpasar International Airport (DPS). The visa process below is the same whether you are heading to Bali, Jakarta, or across to Batam.

Prepare your documents

Get these ready before you touch the portal. It makes the whole thing faster.

Passport. A clear photo of the bio page, in JPG.

Biometric photo. A soft copy in JPG, passport-size, taken within the last six months.

Bank statements. Your last three bank statements showing you have enough funds for the trip, which is USD 2000. You can download these from your internet banking, such as DBS or StanChart.

A hotel address in Indonesia. You must give a hotel address in the form. Note that there is no place to actually attach the hotel booking, only to type the address.

Sponsorship letter and marriage certificate (if you are sponsoring family). If your spouse has their own bank account with more than $2,000 in it, you can simply attach their bank statement to their own application. But if you are sponsoring your family (spouse and kids) for the trip, you need a letter saying so. Here is a sample letter you can copy. In that same letter, on a second page, add a photo of your English-translated marriage certificate to prove the relationship.

Fee and processing time

The fee is 1 million IDR, which is roughly 80 Singapore dollars. Ours took five working days to process.

Step 1: Create an account on the immigration portal

Skip this if you already have an account. Otherwise, go to the portal at https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/, then:

Click Sign In
Click Create Account
Select Foreigner
Enter your details and upload a photo of yourself and a photo of your passport bio page
Click Create, then Activate via Email (you will get an email to activate the account)

Then activate your account through the email you receive.

Your account is now created and active.

Go back to the portal, click Sign In, and log in with your email and the password you set.

Click Apply, confirm your nationality (it is selected by default), choose the purpose of your visit and the visa type, then click Detail & Apply.

Click Apply on the visa details page.

Step 3: Fill in details and upload documents

Even though you gave your details when creating the account, you still need to upload your bio page, a passport-size photo, and enter all the details here, including how you will pay for the visa. This is also where you upload your three months of bank statements. Then click Next.

Note: When you fill out the application for your spouse or children and you are sponsoring them, upload the sponsorship letter we prepared instead of a bank statement.

Step 4: Review and save

Check everything you entered, then click Save.

Step 5: Pay

Your application now shows under My Application with a Waiting for Payment status. Click Details and complete the payment.

To add family members, click Add and repeat the steps for each person.

Step 6: Download your visa

Once the visa is approved, you will get an email. Log in and download the visa.
