Survey results of "Cost of house/room rental in Singapore 2022."
Singapore is a lovely city for ex-pats like you and me. In many ways, it provides an excellent quality of life. However, as rents in Singapore have skyrocketed in recent months, most ex-pacts have been under pressure to find and afford an apartment.
After I published two articles about the cost of living in Singapore for singles and couples, many people contacted me to understand better the costs involved.
The most considerable expense for an ex-pat in Singapore is rent. Hence, I conducted a small survey on 8th Nov 2022 to understand the average rental better so that I can share the findings with newcomers so that they are aware of the rental before they arrive.
Overview of the Participants
Eighty-four (84) people have responded to the survey. Exactly 50% of them stay in an HDB, 47.6% stay in a Condo and 2.4% stay in a Studio.

76 (90.5%) out of these, 84 are EP holders, 6 (7.1%) are S pass holders, and the remaining 2 are other pass holders.

34 (40.5%) stay in Singapore for less than one year, and 30 (35.7%) stay for more than five years. Interestingly, only 20 of them stay between 1-5 years.

24 (28.6%) are single or living in Singapore without family. 34 (40.5%) stay with their spouse in the same house. 26 (31%) are living with family (spouse and kids)
